NE KY AHEC Honors Preceptors at Annual Recognition Celebration

Providing care and medical attention to the sick or injured carries a great responsibility, so it should come as no surprise that medical education is no laughing matter. With the help and guidance of clinical preceptors, students study and train rigorously. In an effort to thank the region’s preceptors for their hard work and dedication, the Northeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center (NE KY AHEC) hosted its annual Preceptor Recognition Celebration on Friday, Nov. 10.

For one night only, the “AHEC Comedy Club” located at the Morehead Conference Center entertained guests and filled a prescription for the best medicine of all – laughter. Dr. Brad Nieder, a.k.a. “The Healthy Humorist,” entertained the crowd with a stand-up health care comedy routine that was both funny and educational.

What’s no joke, though, is the quality and commitment exhibited by all of NE KY AHEC’s clinical preceptors. Dozens of preceptors were honored at this event and the evening culminated with an awards ceremony to pay tribute to seven for their outstanding service.

“Health care providers now face so many financial and regulatory pressures, from achieving quality measures to EMR documentation,” said David A. Gross, NE KY AHEC director. “Against that backdrop, it’s our pleasure to set aside one night to offer them special recognition for voluntarily inviting health professions students into their clinics and hospitals.”
