August 08, 2022

The Northeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center (NE KY AHEC) is pleased to welcome Whitney Cornette as its Lead Health Careers Coordinator, effective Aug. 8.

Cornette is a Lewis County native and 2021 graduate of Morehead State University with a major in Health Care Administration and a minor in Health Promotion. She is a former Pharmacy Technician at St. Claire HealthCare (the host institution of the NE KY AHEC), and most recently served as Revenue Cycle Manager at Morgan County ARH Hospital, which included oversight of the registration and financial counseling staff, as well as serving on the facility’s leadership team.

“I’m looking forward to working with what I already can tell is an amazing group of people,” Cornette said of joining the NE KY AHEC staff. “I have personally seen what the programs through AHEC can do, and I am excited to take a deeper dive into those, and express the importance to students interested in health care exactly what we can do to help them become more successful.”

Cornette will oversee the NE KY AHEC’s college-focused health careers initiatives, which include the Summer Health Internship Program (SHIP), AHEC Scholars, and the national award-winning Successfully Training and Educating Pre-medical Students (STEPS) program. She also will supervise a to-be-hired (Aug. 22) Health Careers Coordinator focused on high school students, a to-be-hired (Aug. 22) Health Careers Coordinator focused on development of a nursing pipeline, and two to-be-hired Educational Assistants. These positions and related activities are being supported by increased funding for which the NE KY AHEC advocated during the 2022 session of the Kentucky General Assembly.

Cornette lives in Morehead with her Goldendoodle named Granger. Outside of work, she is a beekeeper, small business owner, enjoys being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.
