The Northeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center (NE KY AHEC) is pleased to welcome Kellie Jones as its new Lead Health Careers Coordinator, effective June 10.
Jones is a Clark County native and 2019 graduate of Morehead State University with a major in Strategic Communication. Prior to her role with AHEC, Jones worked at Morehead State for four years – first in the Department of Kinesiology, Health, and Imaging Sciences as an Academic Specialist, and most recently in the Department of Nursing as the Regional Academic Counseling Coordinator, where she recruited for programs, handled clinical coordination for all programs, and facilitated admissions into the post-licensure nursing programs.
“My previous role provided me with numerous opportunities to collaborate with the Northeast AHEC, an organization I deeply admire for the programs they have developed for students interested in health care,” Jones said. “The impact they have in preparing these students for their future careers is truly inspiring. I am thrilled to bring my passion for health care and my dedication to the Northeast AHEC’s mission to my new role as the Lead Health Careers Coordinator.”
Jones will oversee all of the NE KY AHEC’s health careers promotion activities, which include high school initiatives; pre-medicine and pre-nursing preparatory programs; and AHEC Scholars, which is designed to enrich the training experiences of students enrolled in the final two years of a health professions program. She also will supervise the NE KY AHEC’s other health careers staff members. These positions and related activities are being supported by state funding for which the NE KY AHEC advocated during the 2024 session of the Kentucky General Assembly.
Jones lives in Morehead with her husband, Andru, and their energetic Rottweiler, Diesel.
