The Northeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center (NE KY AHEC) is excited to welcome a new outreach services coordinator, effective December 2023.
Katie Stumbo will assist with the NE KY AHEC’s pre-college programming, including classroom presentations on health careers and classroom presentations for the Northeast Kentucky Substance Use Response Coalition on substance use prevention. She recently graduated from Morehead State University with her Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences. She has actively been involved with AHEC throughout her time in undergrad.
Katie was raised in Knott County. She grew up loving the mountains of Appalachia and knew she wanted to be here for the rest of her life. From a young age, Katie knew she wanted to be a doctor. Growing up, she almost always had a book in her hand. A few weeks ago, she was accepted into the University of Kentucky College of Medicine Rural Physician Leadership Program Class of 2028. She is super excited and grateful for this upcoming journey.
“I am very excited to take on this new role in AHEC,” Stumbo said. “This position gives me the opportunity to give back to the organization that helped put me on the right trajectory for medical school. I am very excited to work with students who have the same hopes and dreams that I did whenever I was their age. I feel that by educating and advocating for these students, we are doing our role in helping to combat the healthcare provider shortages in rural areas of Eastern Kentucky.”
